SEC Driving Clinic - Three part Series

Participants - $200.00/Series (2days)

(10% discount if you sign up and pay for all three Clinics in the Series)

Your horse or ours (note: your horse must be SEC approved before registration. SEC horses are limited).

January 30 & 31 Clinic Series Part - I Learning to Hitch and Drive

Correct and safe handling of horses and equipment for driving.

(Beginner to Novice)

Topics:  

  • harness & harnessing (demonstration and hands on)
  • breaking & training the driving horse (lecture and demonstration)
  • ground driving (demonstration and hands on)
  • hitching teams and singles (demonstration and hands on)
  • driving singles and teams (demonstration and hands on)

February 27 & 28 Clinic Series - II Basic Principals of Driving

Develop and establish qualities of the driver

(Novice to Experienced – participants must be able to harness, ground drive and hitch singles and teams without assistance.)

Topics:

  • reinsmanship (handling the lines)
  • auxiliary aids including whip, voice, brake and “feel”
  • exercises to develop/improve reinsmanship and use of auxiliary aids
  • driving patterns, cones, dressage tests

 

March 13 & 14 Clinic Series - III Advanced Principals of Driving and Driving Training

(Novice to Experienced – participants must be able to harness, ground drive and hitch singles and teams without assistance.)

Topics:

  • driver aids
  • contact & “feel”
  • basic gaits
  • half-halt
  • basic flatwork including rhythm, suppleness, balance, impulsion, straightness and collection
  • transitions

 

Roger Cleverly - Conditioning The Driving Equine & Obstacle Driving


March 6th & 7th
Participants - $200
Auditors - $25.00/day
Lunch - $7.00 each
Sat PM - $10 Dinner

Roger is well known in Northern California, as one of the quickest drivers in cones and marathon hazards. As a youngster, Roger raced dirt bikes and took racing driver school in the UK, before taking up equestrian sports, and riding show jumping, eventing and the amateur steeple chasing. The techniques Roger learned on the race track, turn in points, clipping points, false apexes, etc., can be applied successfully to driving cones and hazards.
